I bought mine a couple of years ago and it was expensive then.
I read a very thorough and scientific review of this model and it was the most rigid and had the best dampening (often overlooked) of all the models tested [in that review].
Given the tiny size it folds up to it really is very stable.
When I bought the Gitzo, I had a full-size Manfrotto, also an excellent tripod; If I hadn't this would be my only tripod.
I think you generally get what you pay for with tripods.
If you can afford this, you will not regret buying it. If you can't, there are cheaper alternatives that are almost as good.
If we could do half-stars I would deduct a half as it does not come with a proper bag of any kind. At this price point, I would expect a decent bag to store and carry it in.
Oh yes, and it's ...beautiful. Can a tripod be 'beautiful' - Yep, this Gitzo is.
