The Holy Grail

Incredible image and video capabilities. The focus system is out of this world and it continues to amaze me with its performance.

High speed, exceptional autofocus

I have a 1DX Mk III, I love that camera, but this R5 is just as good if not better at certain things. High speed, exceptional autofocus system.
It has issues with battery life, but it is not a problem in the field.

I have taken over 40 000 images with my first R5 and have now bought a second one for my wife. It weighs almost nothing and paired with some of the RF lenses makes a great combo. But: you can use all your EF lenses with excellent and perfect results.
Good low light performance, great speed.
I don't even do video, but the little I do is great as well.
No complaints. Highly recommended.

The R5 is an astonishing camera ...

I don’t know why Canon bothered with the 1DXIII. The R5 with the battery grip is unbelievable, especially the 20 frames per second. This will take your wildlife photography to new levels. No issues with strange lockup’s or over- heating. A long burst using an SD card could appear to be a lockup, a good CFexpress will alleviate this. Battery life using the grip I think is very good considering what the camera is doing especially when you are sitting on the view finder waiting for that critical moment to happen.

Amazing piece of equipment!

I have used the Eos R5 for 6 weeks. Have taken about 11 000 images. Wildlife in Madikwe game reserve and bird photography. I used a Canon 7D mark 2 before and also use a 5D mark 4. Since I have the R5. I sold the 7D mark 2 and have not used the 5D mark 4 at all!

Positives of the R5.
1. Excellent built quality.
2. Focusing ability excellent.
3. Eye focus very good.
4. High ISO noise handling good.
5. Increased frames per second very useful, especially for birds in flight.
6. Viewfinder very crisp and clear.
7. After using the R5, the 5D mark 5 feels very sluggish.
8. Battery performance not as good as DSLR, but much better than **** numbers.
9. Video specs class-leading but I don't do video.

Problems.
1. Several unpredictable lock up episodes, sometimes requiring battery removal.
2. Requires time to get settings sorted.
3. Sometimes slow and difficulty finding initial focus with severely out of focus subjects.
4. Expensive, camera, CF express cards and readers and the battery!
5. Problems report with overheating in certain types of video settings, I do not do video and had no overheating problems.

Verdict:
IMO, a groundbreaking camera, well spect and some amazing features. If the lockup problem is sorted out, even better.

I have no regrets about purchasing this camera!
I would give it 9.5/10

Great focus system, 45Mp sensor a winner!

I traded my trusty 1DX Mark II in on the EOS R5 and am very happy with the switch! We are birdwatchers and the 45Mp sensor gives me better images when cropping the smaller birds, one very happy customer.
