The Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM Lens is a highly portable “pancake” lens designed for travel and street photography. Measuring just 22.8 mm deep and weighing only 125 g, it fits easily in your bag, making spontaneous shooting effortless. On an APS-C EOS camera, the 24 mm focal length delivers a natural 38 mm equivalent perspective, offering images with a human-eye feel.

The fast f/2.8 aperture allows hand-held low-light shooting and creative shallow depth-of-field effects, while STM technology ensures smooth, near-silent autofocus for both photos and movies. Its advanced optical design provides sharp, high-contrast images across the frame and resists flare and coloured fringing. With a minimum focus distance of 16 cm, it brings you closer to small subjects for compelling close-ups.

  • Ultra-compact “pancake” design, 22.8 mm depth, 125 g
  • Natural 38 mm (35 mm equivalent) perspective on APS-C cameras
  • Fast f/2.8 aperture for low-light shooting and bokeh
  • STM motor for smooth, near-silent autofocus in stills and movies
  • Advanced optics with minimal flare and colour fringing

The Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM combines portability, excellent image quality, and versatile performance, making it perfect for photographers who want to capture the world on the go.

Go with this if you're undecided

After buying the Canon EF 50mm as my first lens purchase for my Canon M10, I found the 50mm a great far range lense but also needed something for close up video with the same result and this lens gave me that.

I am lower than a novice so if you only use the default settings and want a nice blurry background, then this is the lens. If you want a super blurry background and can handle being about 5 meters away from the camera, then get the 50mm.

A great buy indeed and I'm very happy having three lense available

Nifty Fifty x 2!

I get all the depth of field of the nifty fifty, with just enough extra width to make me smile!

a Fantastic, but affordable little lens!

As expected, best service ever from Outdoor Photo! Super fast delivery and products always received in perfect condition. Few others can match your level of service. I simply love doing business with you guys, you always make your customers feel valued.

About the product:
This lens is designed for a crop sensor camera. So not a true wide angle lens like what you'd typically expect this focal length to be on a Full Frame body. On a crop body this focal length is closer to 40mm in Full Frame terms so don't expect super wide angle shots should you buy this little lens, but that said....this is a brilliant little lens for its price.

If you own a 50mm prime for your APS-C you'd know that it was a fantastic buy, but the 50mm is not designed for tighter areas especially indoors. So this is where this little 24mm comes in handy.

The 24mm will give you similar picture quality as your Nifty Fifty but allow you quite a bit more manoeuvrability in smaller spaces/areas.

Maximum aperture might only be f/2.8 but handles lower light conditions with similar ease as the 50mm f/1.8. I have not noticed any difference in speed between my newly acquired 24mm and my old faithful 50mm, but the focal length of my new 24mm has already helped a great deal in those tighter areas.

As much as you have zoom lenses covering similar focal ranges, I have to say I simply love my primes as I found focussing a bit more reliable than a zoom that could potentially, by just accidentally adjusting focal distance (even if it's ever so slightly) while taking a picture, cause you to lose focus and/sharpness in your images. So far neither my 50mm nor my 85mm primes have disappointed in this area, and from what I can see neither will my latest addition...the 24mm.

I have fallen in love with this little lens and can already see it is probably going to stay on my camera for a very long time.

It's a great walkabout lens but does not detract from its capability to take a portrait or even that closeup shot of decor or those Wedding rings.

Another advantage is its size. It does not attract as much attention as your zooms when moving around in public. But besides size, one obvious reason to get this lens is its weight. No need for dragging around all that lumpy weight, that many lenses add to your camera when you do decide to go shooting with this little guy. Definitely making walking around with your camera a little easier.

The best part of this lens....it's price.
Most people who are into photography should be able to afford it. And no matter if you're a Pro or just starting out, If you're looking for a no-fuss everyday prime lens for your crop body camera.....this is definitely one you should consider adding to your kit.

Your camera bag absolutely needs this

If you love the nifty 50, you will be smitten with this one. Perfectly neutral and natural perspective. The small form factor takes some getting used to, but it is a joy to work with. The fast f/2.8 allows you to play for longer without a flash. I have even used it for some star trail astrophotography. The focus is very fast, second only to my two Nano lenses. I absolutely adore this little lens and it is cheap enough that no-one with a Canon crop sensor camera has the excuse not to have it in their bag.
