The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM II is a Canon L-series zoom covering wide-angle to short-telephoto focal lengths and featuring a constant f/4 maximum aperture. The version II of this popular lens sports a redeveloped optical design, which includes four aspherical elements to significantly reduce distortion and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range for great sharpness and accurate subject rendering. Individual elements feature an Air Sphere Coating, too, to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and colour accuracy in harsh lighting conditions.

Complementing the refined optics, this 24-105mm f/4 also sports a ring-type USM and internal focusing mechanism to enable quick, quiet, and accurate autofocus performance, as well as full-time manual focus override. A four-stop-effective Image Stabiliser is also used to minimise the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Additionally, this lens is weather-sealed and has a protective fluorine coating on the exposed elements for use in trying environmental conditions.

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/4 to f/22
  • Four Aspherical Elements
  • Air Sphere and Fluorine Coatings

Standard wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens is designed for use with full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 38.4-168mm equivalent focal length range.

What a waste

Everybody told me it was so versatile and such a good choice. Of course I had to get one (I own two - don't ask)
Turned out to be a terrible choice for me.
Not really sharp enough for most of my commercial work and I never really warmed up to it.
In my opinion it is the worst piece of junk Canon ever tried to peddle as an "L" lens.

Great lens...for a new enthusiast.

Like many, I had hoped that Canon would make a replacement version for the original 24-105 for some time. Having owned and used that lens for years on lower resolution cameras, I found it to be a good general purpose event lens and really appreciated the focal range. It was not as sharp as my 24-70 2.8 II, but I really liked having the extra reach at the long end and the IS.

This lens for years now has been one of my...bring just one lens, which one, go to lens. Testing it on my 5D MkII for IS capability and overall sharpness as I will use it, mostly handheld. I was anticipating it to be a bit sharper, edge illumination to be better, and the IS to be more effective, and I'm very happy to report that on all counts I am very pleased with this new lens. I find it a worthwhile improvement on all counts, and a bonus that the lens zooms in and out smoothly for better video compared to V1. Overall it is what I was hoping for. I think it's a great value and a overall a great lens. It is an L series lens, but I won't go with Pro lens. Kind of limited in low F, and not really any bokeh,

Great Quality at Great Value

This is a good, versatile lens, covering the "medium focal range" and as such, is the best in its class, offering good overall performance at an affordable price. If I were still into wedding photography, this would be my lens of choice (but also consider the faster but less versatile 24-70 f/2.8). But, I don't do weddings anymore and now consider this to be a "walk-around" lens for travel and outings. For that, I prefer the mk 1 version of this lens, because it is substantially lighter and easier to walk around with. It is also just as good in image quality in practice (but slightly behind in theory - both lenses are very good).

Versatility

This is my 'go-to' lens because of its versatility and is therefore my default lens on my camera.

Neat and handy

It's a very useful and high quality lens for even an average photographer. I use it on the 70D and it makes a huge difference on quality with sharp direct pictures.
I definitely recommend it to spend just that little bit extra. It's for sure worth it.
